Welcome to On the Thrift. We are a mother and daughter duo who love thrift shopping and DIY home decor projects. My mom is the crafty one but I love showcasing her work as I often get asked from friends “where did you buy that” and the answer is usually “my mom made it”. So this is a great outlet to showcase her craftiness, share our obsession with thrift shopping and hopefully inspire ideas for anyone wanting a DIY project on the thrift!
Growing up with a handy, crafty, thrifter mom was fun. We always got to see all of her projects unveil firsthand. My earliest memories are of her sewing sweaters and making santa clauses for Christmas. She was always part of a craft show selling her knit goods. It wasn’t until a little later that she picked up painting. Suddenly our house was a new colour every other month (not literally, but it felt that way). It just came natural to her and when us 3 girls were out of the house it was no surprise that she wanted to fill her time with something she loved. So there you have it, the story behind the thrifter, the crafter, and the greatest mom I know.
Behind every thrifter is another person……
It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t acknowledge that there are always two sides to any story. In this case, the other side would be the other half, or in other words my wonderful dad. My lucky dad was blessed with us 3 girls, I’m actually surprised we didn’t drive him to insanity, but he’s actually the most down to earth and kind hearted person you will ever meet. So why I am bringing him into the story you ask. Well as the title suggests, behind any good thrifter is a good person, or in this case a good man. My mom may be the mastermind behind all of projects but my dad is always right there with her helping her along the way with whatever she asks him to do. His role mostly consists of drawing, cutting, carving, hammering, loading, unloading, hauling, moving, holding, supporting, shopping, oh and I can’t forget delivering. So he is very much a big part in all of the projects. Thank you dad for being a good sport and for always participating whether you want to or not!
