From old to new – living room table transformation

Transforming an old outdated table into a beautiful living room masterpiece using chalk paint……

The story:  She’s at it again.  I get a phone call from my mom saying she has picked up her next project at the Goodwill and she is so excited she can hardly wait to get started.  I asked her what it was, she said I’d have to wait.  About an hour later pictures start coming in.  It was just what she was looking for, a beautiful (well needed some work) round solid wood table with gorgeous legs.

“Ain’t she a beauty”
my mom says.  But the project had to be put on hold as Granny duties were required, I was about to have my second child.

Two weeks later……Once my mom returned home she rolled up her sleeves and started her project.   She was attempting for the first time to use chalk paint.  It seems to be all the rave so she thought why not give it a go.

The transformation:

First, she had to take it apart, clean it and get it ready for painting.  No sanding required when using chalk paint apparently (however, if wood is rough she still recommends sanding).

Then she started painting the table top.  She used Rust-oleum chalk paint and a matte sealer to prevent the surface from getting scuffed.  The colour is country grey.

Two coats were used for this table just to be on the safe side and she waited an hour and a half in between coats.

Finally, the finished product.  Total cost including paint $40.  Now that’s a steal considering comparable brand new tables go for $400+ dollars!

“Well done mom, you did it again!  What’s next?”
