It’s Seniors Day at the Goodwill

img_2230  It’s seniors day at the goodwill in Sarnia.  Which means my mom will be on the hunt for her next project.  I am always in aw of how she never fails to find something that most people would overlook, that she then turns into a masterpiece.

Going back a few weeks (on seniors day of course) my dear mother managed to find a piece of furniture that would be transformed into a beautiful side table for our soon to arrive baby girls room.

This piece of furniture was all the rave in the 1970’s but in the millennium it has been tossed aside and donated to the Goodwill.  I sometimes wonder what the story behind furniture is, like who owned before, how long did they own it, has it travelled from afar, was it treated well. For now, all I can do is imagine its previous life.

Now, to the transformation…..

Step 1:  purchase paint.  Tip:  Home Depot often has rebates on paint, which is a perfect time to buy and you can tint it later.
Step 2:  purchase new doornobs.  For this piece she found the girly jewels in Home Depot at $5 each.
Step 3.  sand down furniture so it’s nice and smooth and remove old hardware.
Step 4:  paint furniture x 3 coats for this piece
Step 5:  spray paint doors.  Because the doors were (ask mom) it was easier to spray paint.
Step 6:  add new hardware
Step 7:  admire new and improved masterpiece
Step 8:  accessorize.

Of course a table isn’t complete without a little accessorizing.  My mom made a tiny runner for the table (that craft is for another time) and added a lamp that really made the furniture come to life.

This table has found a new home in our baby girls room who I hope will keep it forever and treasure it for all the care and hard work that was put into it from her granny.
